9 Must Try Coffee Drinks in SF

Ice Mojito at Philz Coffee

Owner Phil Jaber hawks more than just coffee at his growing empire of namesake coffee shops sprinkled throughout the Bay Area (12 so far, with four more slated to open in 2013.) Regulars patiently line up at his welcoming java huts for a heaping dose of love, culture and customer service, along with a damn good cup of pour-over coffee that doesn’t have the slightest hint of harsh acidity. His Mission shop was one of the earliest advocates of the “one cup of at a time” credo, and his house blend pour-over that uses his signature Tesora beans is still one of the most frequently asked-for drinks. But we’re suckers for his mojito-style coffee drinks (which can be served hot or over ice) that his son, Jacob, invented many years ago. To make these, the baristas muddle fresh mint leaves with brown sugar, pour in some of their iced Ecstatic Blend coffee, mix in some heavy cream and top with fresh sprigs of mint. As with all of Philz’s drinks, customers can choose their preferred milk, level of sweetness and desired temperature.
